UPCOMING EVENTS

PAST OFFERINGS

Breath and Ground has long been at the heart of the Friends of New Troy Community Center. For more than eight years, our founder, Victoria Petroff, has quietly shared creative opportunities with the children and visitors of the community center. Now, we are formalizing and expanding these offerings to invite deeper engagement with analog arts and traditional practices that help us reconnect with nature, with one another, and with ourselves.

HANDMADE VALENTINE STATION

Date: February 14, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Where: New Troy Community Center

Address: 13372 California Road, New Troy, MI

During the February community market at Friends of New Troy Community Center, Breath & Ground will sponsor a handmade Valentine station. Visitors are invited to explore block printing and stamping and, if they wish, create one or two hand-printed Valentine cards using the provided materials.

Participation is informal and self-guided. A small pay-what-you-can contribution helps support studio materials and future offerings, but is not necessary. This is not a workshop or sales event, but an opportunity to experience traditional hand-printing practices while creating a personal gift to share. All ages welcome! We hope to see you there!

The Breath & Ground block-printing process is rooted in traditional linocut techniques and guided by eco-friendly sensibilities.

Inovart Eco Karve printing blocks are made out of 100% recycled materials. They are easy to carve, leave fresh lines, are good for countless prints, and wash beautifully.

Printing is done using water-based ink on French Paper. Pictured are stock and envelopes from their Speckletone line, made 100% from recycled fibers at their hydropowered plant in Niles, Michigan.

None of these are sponsored endorsements, simply the sharing of knowledge of what has worked well and felt right.

GRATITUDE AND THANKS!

Many thanks to everyone who visited the printing station. We welcomed printmakers ranging in age from 5 to 79, and it was a joy to see so many people take the time to pause and be creative.

A few young visitors even carved their own blocks and learned how to apply gradient ink to make especially colorful prints. Early in the day, one young man stopped by to make a Valentine’s Day card for his girlfriend. He learned how to brayer ink, set and press stock, and later returned to proudly show his grandmother how to make a print.

It was wonderful to see people of all ages sharing the happiness of making something meaningful by hand for someone they love. If you would like to see more traditional art opportunities gifted to everyone, please consider supporting Breath and Ground Studio.

You're the creator, but what are you making?
